St. Ansgar’s newest retailer, DeMaris Hardware, held their Grand-Opening sale and celebration this weekend to great success, as evidenced by the warm welcome that owners Tyler and Katie DeMaris say that they have received from the community-at large since they opened up shop earlier this April.

“The community response has been great,” said Katie. “We can’t thank everyone enough for welcoming us so warmly.”

Tyler and Katie DeMaris purchased St. Ansgar Hardware from Kyle Malmin back in December of 2016, deciding to relocate to raise their three young children back in Ty’s hometown, and to finally pursue their ambition to own and operate a business together.

The idea has blossomed into quite the sizable undertaking since then; as brand new lighting, ceiling tiles, shelving units, new walls, and a fresh coat of paint are just a few of the aspects of the massive floor-to ceiling renovation of the 5,000 square foot store, with the outside signage identifying DeMaris Hardware attractively for patrons of St. Ansgar’s commercial thoroughfare on 4th Street being completed just in time for the weekend’s festivities.

They were given a perfectly sunny-yet-breezy Saturday afternoon as the family and their business were joined by a delegation from the Community Chamber, who presented the store with their membership placard and potted plant; as well as officials from the EDC and City of St. Ansgar, who all extended a warm welcome on behalf of the community, and wished for many years of success to the new owners.

As DeMaris Hardware is a family operation through and through, Tyler and Katie were assisted in the ribbon cutting by their three children, Harper, Miles, and Hazel. It went off without a hitch, and the store, opened for business and officially christened by the community, continued by offering great deals through the weekend, including the first 80 customers receiving a free 5-gallon pail to fill with items for 25% discount, numerous other in-store promotions, and hot dogs, bars and refreshments for the customers to enjoy.

The store, a True-Value Co-Operative member, features a a state-of-the-art paint center, with a computerized paint matching system to find the ideal shade, as well as vinyl printing, live bait, hunting and fishing licenses, and an assortment of home, farm, automotive, and many more miscellaneous hardware items of all kinds that are kept at competitive prices. Keeping local customers from needing to travel long distance for their hardware supplies is seen as their bread and butter, with the couple declaring,  “There’s nothing more annoying than being in the middle of a project and having to drive a long distance to get something”

Tyler and Katie also said they have seen first hand the cyclical support of local businesses, saying that many of their first customers have been stocking up, commenting on how they were waiting until they could buy their supplies locally.

Information and updates from the store can be found on Facebook at: DeMaris Hardware, but be sure to stop in to see the newest addition to our business community; check out their great selection of neatly organized wares, and receive a friendly welcome from Gracie the Hardware dog, and everyone at DeMaris Hardware! Congratulations on your Grand Opening!
