Saints Defeat Postville, Host Riceville in Second District Game Thursday

The St. Ansgar Saints played their first game of the Class 1A District 5 tournament in St. Ansgar on Tuesday night. The first game of the tournament on Tuesday in St. Ansgar saw Riceville hold off Wapsie Valley by a score of 6-5. St. Ansgar was locked in from the start, with Ben Boerjan on the bump for the Saints to start things off. After a great effort on defense from the Saints, they got right into things offensively, scoring 6 runs in the first innings, only to top it the next innings by scoring 10 runs to go up 16-0 after two innings.

The Saints added two more runs in the third to push the lead to 18-0, but Postville would get one run in the fourth to take away the shutout. St. Ansgar finished the game with 15 hits to Postville’s 3. The Saints finished off Postville early, winning 18-1 after four innings.

With the win, the Saints advance to face Riceville on Thursday in St. Ansgar with a start time of 7:00 PM.

Boerjan had a great game in limited time on the mound against Postville. In two innings, he only threw out 26 pitches, allowing just 2 hits and striking out one. Cole Willert finished pitching for St. Ansgar and in two innings, allowed one run on one hit, striking out 3.
