The second game of the year wasn’t so easy for the boys’ basketball team, which matched up with the Osage Green Devils. Osage came out on fire to start the game, and the Saints never gained any real traction throughout the night which resulted in the Saints losing their second game of the year 33-75.
Collin Kramer was the high scorer for the Saints. He finished with 13 points on 5-11 from the field. He added 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, a steal and an assist. Erik Gerdts finished with 9 points, all coming from three point range. He was active on defense as well, finishing with 3 steals. Ethan Kirchgatter had 5 points, 3 assists, 2 steals and a rebound. Other players that scored for St. Ansgar were Ryan Cole, Jack Sievert, and Braden Powers.
The Saints only have 2 senior players this season compared to their 10 last year. So some of the younger guys will have to step up into some bigger roles this year.
“We graduated 10 seniors last year so one of the big things this year is to have some of these younger guys step up into some of these bigger roles and to keep improving as a group and individually each day.” said head coach Jason Squier of this year’s team. “So far these guys have done a good job. It’s challenging and they’re doing their best. Physically they’re still learning the game at the high school level but they’re doing good things everyday.”
The Saints will travel to Greene on Friday night for their next game in their 2017-2018 season to take on the North Butler Bearcats (3-0). Good luck, Saints!
