Choirs from Osage, Riceville and St. Ansgar met onstage this Friday at the CRC in Osage for a holiday concert, sponsored jointly by the Mitchell County Fine Arts Council and Shop on State.
The concert, featuring the combined choirs from the three high schools accompanied by a brass quintet and piano, featured traditional Christmas fare and contemperary holiday music, including “Angels We Have Heard on High”, “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, The First Noel” and “Make our Garden Grow”
The auditorium was filled with the sounds of holiday spirit as well as the sights, with even the combination of school colors on the students’ choir robes emulating the Christmas season’s colors of red and green.
Also joining in the music was the first ever appearance of the Mitchell County Combined Children’s choir, who performed with the high schoolers, “Look at the World”
The children’s choir was comprised of eight students from each school. Students from St. Ansgar include Drew Carlson, Tegan McHugo, Mariah Michels, Matthew Easley, Kyndall Koster, Izzy Malmin, Christian Michels, and Gus Walk. The evening’s festivities concluded on a high note, quite literally, as the audience joined the choirs in the “Hallelujah” Chorus, from Handel’s Messiah.
The Osage choir was directed by Laurie Hoeppner, Riceville by Amanda Dwine and St. Ansgar by Chris Haacke.
