The Cedar Summerstock Theatre Company has announced the dates and shows for their upcoming sophomore season, which will see the company descend upon Mitchell County once again for a summer of dazzling theatrical performances.
The lineup of shows is as follows: Main Traveled Roads (June 21-July 1) Pirates of Penzance (July 5-15) Little Shop of Horrors (July 19-29) and will conclude with Annie (August 2-12).
Performances will be staged at the Cedar River Complex in Osage, IA and tickets are available now in person or at cedarsummerstock.org.
During last year’s inaugural season, the company briefly utilized space in South Square Community Center for dormitories, until a complaint to the Iowa Fire Marshall forced the overnight residents to vacate until a full architectural report was on file.
At the monthly meeting of the South Square Board earlier this month, the results of that architectural report were revealed. In short, in order for overnight habitants to be allowed in the building, outdoor exits would need to be installed in every dormitory, and dormitories would be limited to the first floor.
The Cedar Summerstock Theater will be utilizing South Square for rehearsals, meals and workspace, the Cedar River Complex for their performances, and will be housed off site.
Nancy Nickerson-Lee founder of the company, had a vision that Cedar Summerstock Theater “…would not only be be an amazing opportunity for college theater students, but that it would also provide quality theater experiences for local people of all ages.”
In keeping with her vision, the theater is holding auditions in each of the 3 Mitchell County School districts in early March. There will be no “extras” for Main Traveled Roads, but both kids and adults will be needed for the other 3 productions. Please contact theater company manager Marti Steele at email@example.com with questions or to find out how to audition.
See you on stage this summer!
