St. Ansgar notched their first conference win of the season Tuesday, hanging on to beat Central Springs on the road.

The Saints trailed by a narrow two-point margin after the first half saw both sides trade a hand full of 3-pointers.

St. Ansgar tightened up on the defensive end and went on a 10-0 run to open the second half, and held on to win 50-42.

“Our defense in the second half was the reason we won the game,” first-year head coach Bret Williams said. “[Our] players put in a lot of work, they had to learn a whole new offense… It was good to see it all pay off tonight.”

Williams earned the victory in his first game as the Saints head coach, and will look for his second when St. Ansgar travels to Hampton-Dumont this Saturday.
