The St. Ansgar Legion’s annual New Year’s Day shindig was once again a success, seeing lots of generous locals show up to support the event.

The annual party features soups, bloody’s and lots of raffle prizes, and is the Legion’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

Proceeds from the event are often used to upgrade the building or are given back to projects or organizations throughout the community.

In the last five years, the New Year’s Day event has provided funds for the following: $3,000 to the STA Fire Department, $3,000 for the first responders, $1,500 for youth sports, $1,500 to the museum, and $9,500 for remodeling and improvements to the building.

The Legion has also donated to various groups such as the Boy Scouts, the Lyle Cancer Pool Tournament, the STA Booster Club, the Christmas lights project on 4th Street, the day care, and Shopping with Santa just to name a few.

Lots of sponsors and donors donate their time and money towards the Legion’s endeavors, and so do the Sons of the American Legion and the Lady’s Auxiliary.
