The teachers and students at STA CSD had to get a little creative for celebrating Senior Citizen Appreciation Day this year.

In order to be compliant with the social distancing recommendations, senior citizens were able to drive up and retrieve a flower from a safe distance.

St. Ansgar teacher Deneen Nelson said that the event turned out even better than she expected, with approximately 60 people coming around to participate.

“Normally on Senior Citizen Appreciation Day, we are battling rain (or even snow last year),” said Nelson, “but, this year the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day for people to stop by and pick out a flower.”

“While we miss being able to share the talents of our music, theater, and foods programs with pie and a show, it was a nice opportunity for us to showcase another group: our horticulture program, led by Jim Green,” continued Nelson. “We are very fortunate to live in such a supportive community, and we are happy to be able to give back in a small way to show our appreciation.”
