Pillow Day at the Legion

A good pillow makes a big difference in how you sleep.

At least that’s what Doug Kraft, owner of Kraft Pillow Service, will tell you. And all the people that brought their flimsy, dirty old pillows to the legion last week will agree.

For the last decade or so, Kraft has brought his “mobile pillow cleaning service” to the St. Ansgar Legion each year, and the citizens in town can come drop off their pillows to have them cleaned and have new cases put on.

The process involves taking the feathers and stuffing out of the pillow, then cleaning and washing them to remove dust and allergens that have built up. The feathers are then put into new ‘ticking’, which is the outside material.

When it’s all done, Kraft has turned your lumpy, used coffee filter back into a pillow again.

Kraft Pillow Service is out of Kingsley, Iowa, a small town over by Sioux City. Doug and his wife Vanease put on thousands of miles each year with their mobile pillow cleaning units, doing jobs for hotels in Chicago all the way to ‘pillow day’ at the St. Ansgar Legion.

Kraft said he enjoys helping with the St. Ansgar event, and part of the profits from each pillow is given back to the Legion Auxiliary.
