The Saints girls basketball team got after it early and often in Tuesday’s matchup against the Central Springs Panthers, jumping out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter.

St. Ansgar’s full-court press continued to fluster the Panthers, giving up only a freethrow in the second stanza giving the Saints a 24-3 halftime lead.

“I think we played sound defense tonight,” said Junior Gracie Urbatsch, who helped apply relentless pressure all night on the opposing ball carriers. “We all know good defense comes with hard work, and I think that’s going to be one of our strong suits this season.”

The Saints went on to win 49-22, and will travel to Hampton-Dumont for their next contest.
